MRS. DIXON TALKS ABOUT HER GREAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER
Gale Harllee Dixon presented a program on her great great grandmother, Ada White Bacot Clarke, for the January meeting of the Forget-Me-Knot Garden Club. The club met at the Roseville, the historic home which once belonged to Ada Bacot Clarke.
Mrs. Dixon talked about her great great grandmother whose diaries from 1860-63 were published by the University of South Carolina Press as “A Confederate Nurse,” in 1993. The book records the daily experiences of a local widow serving as a nurse to wounded Confederates in Charlottesville, Va. The diaries were edited for the book by Jean V. Berlin and are housed at the South Caroliniana Library on the campus of USC in Columbia.
