Nick Townsend and Ann Miles will be featured at the Dec. 17 Live@Central program at Central United Methodist Church. Nick is a well-known tenor who is a member of the Central United Methodist Church Choir and the Masterworks Choir and often sings solos with each group. Ann Miles is the major pianist in the Music Department at Coastal Carolina University. Their program will consist of a variety of Christmas music.
A Christmas Concert featuring Lindsey Grant and Sam Grant will be held on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Performers also include Kindred Spirit, Suzanne Henderson, with guest musicians Will Harper, Chuck Helms, Kevin Singleton, Adam Brown and Rusty Henderson. This is a free concert, but donations will be accepted with proceeds going to missions.
FLT’s Rising Stars Workshop presents “Bye Bye Birdie” at the Florence Little Theatre the weekend of Dec. 19-21. Three performances are scheduled – Friday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20 at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 21, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Doors open one hour prior to show time. The production is directed by Brad Sponic.
Friends of Florence County Library will host their Annual Meeting on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. in the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library, Stukes Meeting Room. The Friends will present their officers for the 2015 year and the 2014 financials. The guest speaker will be Ben Ingram who won the 2014 Jeopardy Tournament of Champions. Ingram is a Florence native with degrees from Wofford College and the University of South Carolina. He is currently an IT consultant in Charlotte and lives at Lake Wylie. Join us in congratulating Mr. Ingram who proudly represented his home town of Florence.
The Military Gang will have its monthly breakfast meeting on Saturday, Dec 20, at 7:30 a.m. at the Golden Corral Restaurant. If you are a military veteran or on active duty, you are invited to come out and be a part of this group. All-you-can-eat breakfast is available.
DARLINGTON – The Darlington High School Student Government Association will host the second annual “Brunch with Santa” event at the school on December 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held in the cafeteria and will allow kids the chance to talk to Santa and have pictures made with him. Lots of games, candy, breakfast food and prizes will be available. The event is $5 per person. SGA Advisor Jessica DeStefano said she encourages all kids to come out with their parents for a fun filled day. “We want to get the school more involved with the community,” DeStefano said. “We want to show the community the positive side of DHS and give back. We really just want to celebrate the holiday with the young ones.”
