Don Swartz has more than 30 years in the newspaper industry. He began his career in 1981 selling advertising in Tampa, Fla. Over the next 16 years he worked for newspapers in Palatka and St. Augustine, Fla.; Corinth, Meridan and Starksville, Miss; Florence, Ala.; and Sevierville, Tenn.
In 1997, he moved back to Corinth, Miss., as the Publisher. His next move was to Indiana where he was Publisher for the Peru and Wabash newspapers.
In late 2001, Don moved to Florence as a Partner and Publisher of The News Journal, The Darco News & Buyers Guide in Hartsville, and The Marion County News Journal in Marion and Mullins. On July 1, 2006, these properties became the publications of Swartz Media.

Catherine Moreno is responsible for the website of all our publications she also handles our legal and classified department in Florence, she is a 2005 graduate of Bartow High school in Florida. She also attended Polk State College and earned an Associates in business administration. She is a recent transplant to the area coming here from Texas.
Brenda has been with The News Journal since 1988. She oversees the editorial content of the paper, writing and editing articles, in addition to the layout. Brenda "grew up" in the newspaper business, starting at age 16 with her first job as news librarian at the Florence Morning News. A Florence native, she is a 1969 graduate of McClenaghan High School.
She serves on the board of the House of Hope of the Pee Dee. She is president of the FLT Friends and is active with the Florence Little Theatre. She is a member of the Art's International Committee, the Florence Downtown Development Corporation's Promotional Committee, the Florence County Tobacco Task Force and the Advisory Board for the Palmetto State Boychoir. She is an active member of First Baptist Church.
