Waggin' & Shaggin' Beach Music benefit for animals

DARLINGTON – Get those puppies moving at the Waggin’ & Shaggin’ Beach Music Benefit for the Darlington County Humane Society on Friday, Sept. 13. Put on your shaggin’ shoes and head to Pim Farms, 464 Dovesville Highway in Darlington, for some fun for a good cause, as you unwind after a long work-week under the stars. The event begins at 7 p.m. and continues through 11 p.m. with music by the Rick Strickland Band featuring Darlington natives Lesa Hudson and Debbie Anderson, and Rick Strickland – an eight-time “Cammy” Award winner for his original beach music songs – as well as the classics from Dan E. Lockemy, local radio host of At the Beach on Sunny 105.5. There will be a shagging contest with a $100 top prize, too.

Fuel up on all the fair food you can handle: hamburgers, hand-cut chili cheese fries, corn dogs, nachos, sweet potato fries, and homemade cakes. Or sit by the fire and roast some s’mores! Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit and enjoy the tunes under the walnut orchard or find a spot closer to the action in the barn area of the farm. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the gate and include  food, soft beverages, entertainment, and a cash bar. Children’s tickets are $15 for ages 12 and younger. Buy tickets in Darlington at First Church of God, Jewel's Deluxe, Darlington Raceway, and the animal shelter and in Hartsville at the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce, Burry Bookstore, Holland House Hair Stylists, Carolina Cuts, CJ’s Cakes, and Bizell's Food & Spirits. The event started a few years ago as one of the few major fundraisers the Humane Society holds to help fund shelter operations. This one is focused on getting Darlington in on the action. The other major events are the Toast to the Coast, held at Kalmia Gardens in Hartsville, and the Lucky Dog Ball, held at Prestwood Country Club in Hartsville, held alternating years.
