Would you give up your bed for one night, if it would change a life? Youths and adults are encouraged to participate in Family Promise’s Cardboard Box City 2013 on Saturday, Sept. 28, at West Florence High School. The purpose for this one-night event is to raise money and awareness for Family Promise of Florence – a community wide program that supports homeless families on their journey to a stable future. Participants in Cardboard Box City will sleep overnight in a cardboard box to raise money and awareness of homeless families. Youth must be supervised by an adult (one adult for every five youth). There will be entertainment, dinner, contests, breakfast and more. The cost is $20 per person. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 4:30 p.m, to 7 a.m on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Cardboard Box City is open to people of all ages and affiliations. Youth groups, service clubs, school groups and families are encouraged to use this event as a learning and team-building experience. Students in 7th -12th grade may be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Students/youth 6th grade and younger must be accompanied by a parent. “It’s been so much fun seeing kids get excited about doing something for the homeless,”said Beth Behling,  coordinator of this event. Each “renter” at Cardboard Box City must fill out a registration form which is available at local churches or by contacting Beth Behling at 843-206-6334. She is anticipating 250 participants for Cardboard Box City.
