Florence County Auditor Wayne Joye has announced that he will seek re-election for the Florence County Auditor’s position. Joye has served for two years as Delinquent Tax Collector and the past 25 years as Florence County Auditor. “I have truly enjoyed serving the people of Florence County,” Joye said. “I would certainly appreciate being honored with the opportunity to continue that service. This is a job that I take very seriously and to which I am committed to wholeheartedly.” Joye pointed out that during his service as Florence County Auditor, he has been able to establish a close working relationship with officials at the city, county and state levels. “Agencies like the Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Natural Resources, State Comptroller General, State Department of Revenue and Taxation and the State Treasurer’s Office all provide information essential to the efficient and accurate operation of the Auditor’s office,” Joye said. Maintaining close ties with local and state agencies such as these enables the Auditor to better serve the People of Florence County. The county auditor is responsible for assembling information on real and personal property ownership for the purpose of establishing a fair market value, computing the assessed value and applying the county millage rate to produce the tax revenue to be collected by the county treasurer. Also, high mileage, homestead exemptions and tax refunds are just a few of the services he assists taxpayers with. Auditor Joye stated that he considered it an honor to have been a member of the team that put together the Lake City satellite offices to better serve the citizens of Florence County. Joye is also active in community affairs. He is the chairman of March of Dimes Walk America Walk-a-Thon, served on several committees appointed by the South Carolina Association of Auditor’s, Treasurers, and Tax Collectors, a member of the Flintville Masonic Lodge 158, former Big Brother and served nine years in the South Carolina National Guard. He and his wife, Penny Jordan Joye have two daughters, Charlotte (Brian) Ward and Julie (Lee) McKenzie and one grandson Josh McKenzie.
