The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce partnered with the North Dargan Innovation Center to host a business pitch contest held on June 10. Participants pitched a number of new ideas, recently started business, and small business. The competition was dubbed Florence Business Shark Tank, after the popular television show of the same name. Over 60 people attended as 11 competitors entered the Florence Shark Tank at North Dargan Innovation Center to present their ideas.
The competing businesses were: QuickCard Kiosk, Manning’s Decorators, Larry’s of Little River, DeVine Glory Magazine, Bibwell Trivia Company, Pigeon Carriers, Full Tilt Social Athletics, HH LLC, Memories by Kay, Scott’s Truck Body Protection and Rules-At-Work. The winner was HH LLC, a healthy fast food company. As the winner, HH will get one month of free co-work space at the Innovation Center. The winner was also given a contract with additional services from prize sponsors: Small Business Development Center (business plan assistance); Miller Communications (advertising space); S/W Printing (business cards); Tyrant Entertainment (logo); Muffuletta Media (social media service package) and HillSouth (website).
Judges for the competition were Bruce Boyd (ServiceMaster); Robby Hill (HillSouth); and Diana Murphy (DMM Advertising). The Chamber acts as a unified voice for the Florence business community. Chamber members are recognized as leaders in the development and growth of Florence and the Pee Dee Region. The Chamber hosts various events to help promote the Florence business environment and make Florence a more attractive place to work and live.
