State Fair announces attractions

COLUMBIA – The 2013 SC State Fair opens Oct. 9, and it’s sure to be a “Find Your Happy” winner once again with the return of all your favorite rides, concerts, foods, attractions and more! General admission tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Grandstand Concert Series, which include admission to the fair, go on sale online at www.scstatefair.org, Thursday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m.  Admission tickets and ride vouchers are also available at Bi-Lo stores. Starting this year, children five and under, active and retired military personnel, and military dependents (with proper ID) all enjoy free admission to the fair. Family Fun Packs are available online only, and only through the month of August. The money-saving packages include five (5) admission tickets to the fair, two (2) ride vouchers, and ten (10) $1 food discount coupons – a $110 value for just $70. The fair’s Pepsi Grandstand Concerts have become an annual something-for-everyone musical tradition, and this year's high profile mix of country, gospel, rock and Motown headliners – including three free shows – makes the reason for its popularity clear. The 2013 Pepsi Grandstand Series lineup is a real musical masterpiece, featuring: • THE BAND PERRY                  Wednesday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m.                       $30 • COREY SMITH                        Thursday, Oct. 10, 7. p.m.                          free with fair admission •FOREIGNER                            Friday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m.                                 $15. • HUNTER HAYES                     Saturday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m.                       $30. • KIRK FRANKLIN                     Sunday, Oct. 13, 4 p.m.                              free with fair admission. • NEEDTOBREATHE                 Friday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m.                                 $15. • THE TEMPTATIONS              Saturday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m.                          free with fair admission. • JUSTIN MOORE                    Sunday, Oct. 20, 6 p.m.                             $15. “We have big news for students, too,” said General Manager Gary Goodman. “Thursday, Oct. 10 will be College Day at the fair. Admission – including the Corey Smith concert – is free for students with current valid college ID. And, along with Indie Grits and the Nickelodeon theatre, we're hosting a unique, 48-Hour Film Blitz competition for filmmakers around the Southeast. Details are coming soon." This year’s State Fair will also feature an expansion of its”From Field to Fair” program aimed – with a special emphasis on school children – at promoting the importance and value of South Carolina agriculture locally and globally. The 2013 South Carolina State Fair runs from Oct. 9 through Oct. 20 at the fairgrounds on Rosewood Drive and George Rogers Blvd. in Columbia.
