Florence Area Humane Society lists upcoming events at the Animal Shelter

REPTILE PROGRAM: The public is invited to come to the shelter on Thursday, Aug.15, at 1 p.m. for a Cold Blooded Encounter like no other! The reptile zoo, Cold Blooded Encounters from Monroe, NC, will bring many of their fascinating animals to the shelter for an hour long program. This program is free to the public and is ideal for school-age children. Space is limited. To register, email pgfahs@icloud.com and let us know how many plan on attending. SENIORS FOR SENIORS: The FAHS will bring some senior animals that are looking for homes to the Leatherman Senior Center on Aug. 15. Adoption fees will be sponsored by Hospice Care of South Carolina. For more information call the shelter at 843-669-2921. WOOFERS: Grand Opening The FAHS will have dogs and pups available for adoption at Woofers on Saturday, Aug.17 at noon. Bring your dog and check out the new pool and playground and maybe meet a new FAHS friend to take home. RESERVE AT MILL CREEK: On Thursday, Aug. 22, the Reserve at Mill Creek will welcome some FAHS animals from 5-7 p.m. and will waive the pet deposit for its residents for adoptions. HOWL-O-WEEN: Timrod Park is the place to be on Oct. 26. It’s a fun day of games, contests, music, good food and great prizes, all for a great cause. Sponsored by the Florence Area Humane Society and the City of Florence Recreation the third annual Howl-o-ween benefit will include a 5/10k run this year. Registration for the run and more information will also be available at www.carolinarunningcompany.com VOLUNTEER ORIENTATIONS: Volunteer orientations will be held the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. – Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14. Following the basic orientation, volunteers may attend either a dog or cat enrichment class. Registration for volunteer orientation is required and space is limited. Families with children ages 10 and above are welcome to attend. To register, please go to www.florencehumanesociety.org. Specify the prefered date and how many will be attending orientation.
