Elks to host
DARLINGTON – The community is invited to celebrate with the Darlington Elks at their 33rd Annual Parade and Festivities. The Pee Dee United Elks Lodges #1679 and Excelsior Temple #790 will have their annual festivities Oct. 4-5 in Darlington, and all activities, except the parade, will be held at the Darlington Elks Lodge, 812 Timmonsville Highway, Darlington. Friday night, join the Elks for a Meet-and-Greet party at 7 p.m. at the lodge to kick-off the weekend. Saturday’s parade will begin at 11 a.m. and go around the courthouse, down Pearl Street, turn onto Edwards, then onto Chestnut and down Southern Pines to Virgil Wells Stadium. Afterwards, head to the lodge for an old-fashioned cook-out with barbecue, chicken bog, hot dogs, and games for the children. Then Saturday night, hit the dance floor at the lodge at 9 p.m. for the Elks Annual Dance.
Admission is $15. Compared to other Elks organizations, Darlington is one of the few that involves the entire community to join the party. It’s grown from a few local bands to a huge event with hundreds in attendance. The festivities have grown so much so that many national officers return to Darlington each year for the big parade. All funds raised by the festivities will go back into the community through the Elks’ various service projects, which include providing school supplies and Christmas presents for needy children, an annual fall festival for the kids, and a Christmas dinner for area senior citizens.
