THE CAST OF CHARLOTTE’S  WEB OPENING ON FRIDAY AT THE FLORENCE LITTLE THEATRE

Combine children, hand puppets and a classic tale by E.B White and what do you get? The Florence Little Theatre’s summer production of “Charlotte’s Web” with six performances over the next two weekends – July 11-13 and July 18-20. This children’s play is directed by Brad Sponic. The Armstrong Management Wealth Group is underwriting the production. This faithful stage adaptation of E.B. White’s legendary novel includes all your favorite characters: Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.”

Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web in which she writes, “Some pig.” It’s the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte. This is a beautiful, knowing play about friendship that will provide an evening of enchantment. “It is a really sweet, not simple, but complex, story about the human condition. It’s a little sad, but uplifting,” Sponic commented. An interesting feature of this FLT production is that the animal characters will be portrayed by youth puppeteers.

The characters and cast include Fern played by Abby Greenwood, Mr. Arable played by Daniel Hilbourn, Mrs. Arable by Kaylie Kilpatrick, Avery Arable by James Wesley Hanna, Homer Zuckerman by Jay Hilbourn, Edith Zuckerman by Emily Bochette and Lurvy by Mikayla Suggs. Wilbur is played by Raija Haughn, Templeton by Amelia Abernathy, Charlotte by Rebecca Whitten, Goose by Maitland Weaver, Gander by Noah Twiggs, Sheep by Ryan Hilbourn and Lamb by Maura Hilbourn. Act One narrators are Madison Becker, Rian Avin and Ashley O’Connor. Act Two narrators are Grace Avin, Maleah Cornelius and Erin Dozier. Uncle (winning pig) – Jordan Young, Reporter – Kara Snowden, Voice on Loudspeaker – Hanan Taylor, Uncle’s Owner – Kris Jones, First Spectator – Ellis Hill, Second Spectator – Emma Dozier, First Fairgoer – Caroline Shealy, Second Fairgoer – Tessa Pinkerman, Third Fairgoer – Maddie Nelson, Announcer – Lilly Williams.
