Our founding fathers would not be happy

How can our Mayor and City Councilmen tear down a building that is listed on The National Register of Historic Places? I am referring to The Florence Trust Building, ca. 1919, and is listed on The National Register of Historic Places. Are there any laws regarding the demolition of National Register Historic Buildings? My ancestor, General William Wallace Harllee, was one of the founders of the Village of Florence. Our founding fathers would not be happy about tearing down historic buildings. Too many historic buildings and homes have been demolished due to progress. Let us preserve our heritage and historic buildings in the future. Economic development is very important to our city’s future and can happen without destroying our history. Gale Harllee Dixon, Florence
