Cooks for Christ will host a chicken bog benefit on March 13 to assist Jodie Cook and her family with their overwhelming financial burden. The benefit will be held at the West Florence Fire Station on Pineneedles Road in Florence. Jodie Cook was involved in a head on collision in July 2013. She suffered multiple broken bones and had rods and plates inserted in her legs. One of her knees was crushed and was surgically rebuilt. She was in the hospital for three and a half months and endured numerous surgeries to repair all the damage. Jodie is home now, but is still unable to walk. She is facing at least six more surgeries to help her walk again.
She did not have health insurance and her husband was forced to quit work to care for her and their 5 year-old twins. Travel expenses and medications are an ongoing expense. The menu consists of chicken bog, green beans, slaw, and bread. Plates are $6. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A bake sale will be held all day. Lunch and dinner plates can be delivered for orders of seven plates or more. A medical fund has been established and all checks should be made payable to the Jodie Cook Medical Fund.
