FMU places 14 on ADA Academic Achievement list

The NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association recently announced its annual list of recipients for the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Awards – a list that includes 14 student-athletes from Francis Marion University. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. A record 169 institutions participated in the 2012-13 awards program and a record 6,801 student-athletes were recognized. The 14 Patriot honorees represented seven different sports.

The FMU student-athletes included on the list are baseball outfielder Dalton Gress (Aiken), women’s cross country runner London Barnhill (Hemingway), and men’s soccer players Chuy Cruz (Austin, TX), Gino Lucarelli (Goose Creek), and Igor Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Also softball players Tristan Faile (Lancaster), Olivia Ferguson (Roanoke, VA), and Olivia Zielinski (Greenville); men’s tennis players Eimon Heywood (Huddersfield, England) and Marius Wahlier (Cologne, Germany); women’s tennis players Mona Blauen (Cologne, Germany) and Kerry Hall (Durbin, South Africa); and volleyball players Jessica Imbimbo (Hudson, FL) and Paige Perreault (Kankakee, IL). Gress, Cruz, Faile, Ferguson, Blauen, and Hall all earn the honor for the third time, while Barnhill, Zielinski, and Perreault are two-time honorees. In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters).
