Fifth grader Sophia Watson of Moore Intermediate School and eighth grader Kayla Hamilton of Sneed Middle School have been selected as the 2013-14 Florence School District One Writing Awards Program winning recipients. Sophia’s essay is entitled Speeches that Made a Difference in History. Her Language Arts teacher is Laura Rivers. Kayla’s essay is entitled Florence, South Carolina: Rich in History. Kayla’s Language Arts teacher is Terry Robinson. The district writing program seeks to integrate teaching and instructional objectives, content, and standards in both English Language Arts and Social Studies content relevant to each grade level. Fifth and eighth grade classes participate in the program yearly. School winners will be recognized during an awards program at their schools in May.
