Head girls basketball coach named at Wilson

Florence One principal Dr. Eric Robinson has approved the hiring of Gerrin L. Harrison as head coach of the Wilson High School girls’ basketball team. “Ms. Harrison brings Division 1-A athletic experience to Wilson High School,” said Dr. Robinson. Harrison has served for the last two years as varsity assistant at Graham High School (Graham, NC) and Riverside High School (Durham, NC). In addition, she served as Head JV Basketball Coach and Varsity Assistant at Riverside High School for the past three years. Harrison recently received a Master of Arts Degree in Counselor Education from North Carolina Central University in Durham and is also a 2006 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from the University of Tennessee, (Knoxville). Harrison is also an alumna of Wilson High School.

BACK TO BACK 2013 & 2014 AAU State Champions – 8th Grade Brittani All-Stars won the SC AAU State Championship for the second consecutive year on May 2-4  at Hammond School in Columbia. As state champions they will compete in the AAU National Championship in Orlando, Fla. on July 6-12. AAU State Runner-up – The Brittani Hoopsters competed in the 11th Grade SC AAU State Championship on May 16-18 and finished in second place. Florence youth basketball

The City of Florence Recreation Department and the Florence Youth Basketball League begins registration for summer youth basketball on May 1, and runs thru May 28 at the administrative offices at 513 Barnes Street. Hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The registration cost is $35 per participant. All participants must be signed up by a parent or legal guardian. A birth certificate is required at the time of registration for those who have never participated in a youth sports program with the City of Florence. Games will be played at Williams Middle School, Alfred Rush Academy, and the Barnes Street Activity Center. Age groups for players will be 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-17 year olds. The groups are based on the age they are as of Sept. 1, 2014. All age groups will be co-ed play. Rules are specifically designed by age groups.
