American Legion recognizes baseball teams success
The Fred H. Sexton American Legion Post 1 held a special awards ceremony for their two state championship baseball teams on Nov. 25 at First Presbyterian Church. The junior and senior Legion teams won their respective state championships for the 2014 season. Both teams received championship rings in recognition of their accomplishments. Master of ceremonies Mike Richey, Post 1 Athletic Officer, opened the meeting with a big thank you to all of the teams’ supporters, families, coaches and players. Junior Legion Coach Josh Brown and Senior Legion Coach Derrick Urquhart spoke about the accomplishments of their teams in glowing terms. Josh Brown, a nine year veteran coach led the junior team to a 30 win, three-loss season. He has been to eight state championship games and won six.

Darlington Recreation taking baseball registration

DARLINGTON – The Darlington Little League baseball registration on is underway for ages 3-15 as of April 1, 2015. The price of registration for 3-5 years is $25, and $30 for ages 6 and older. For more information, contact the Darlington Area Recreation Department at 843-398-4030. The Darlington Dixie Youth Baseball League started registration on Jan. 5 for boys aged 5-14 as of April 1, 2015. The price of registration is $45. Royals Pitcher Ali Williams To Host Baseball Skills Clinic
Hartsville, SC – Ali Williams, pitcher in the Kansas City Royals system, is hosting a baseball skills clinic Saturday, December 20 from 1-3pm at Byerly Park. Ali and his teammates are bringing their talents to Darlington County to help develop the baseball skills of players ages 8 to 18. Ali is well-qualified to instruct players on proper pitching forms and techniques; he boasts a 97 mph fastball, as well as excellent stats in the Arizona Fall League. Ali will be joined by USC standout pitcher Matt Price, now affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles. Both Matt and Ali have found great success with their pitching techniques, and they are excited to pass their knowledge and skill to Darlington County’s developing players. Ali and Matt will be accompanied by other Kansas City Royals players that will serve to round out the clinic with batting and fielding instruction.
