Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's gets underway on Saturday

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Florence residents  to fight the nation’s sixth leading cause of death by participating  in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End  Alzheimer’s. McLeod Health and Fitness Center will be the  site of the Walk on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10 a. m.

“There has never been a greater need for the citizens of  Florence to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease,” said  Cindy Alewine, President/CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association,  South Carolina Chapter. “For many of us, Alzheimer’s  is personal. We can remember the day that our loved one  was diagnosed or when they no longer recognized their family.  It is a heartbreaking disease that must be stopped.”

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is an uplifting experience uniting  the community -family, friends, co-workers, social and religious  groups and more -in a display of combined strength  and dedication in the fight against this devastating disease.  In addition to the walk, participants will join in a meaningful  ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.  Participants will also have the opportunity to get more  involved through advocacy and clinical trial enrollment, as well  as learn more about support programs and services available  for caregiving families.

Registration is free at While there

is no fee to register, participants are encouraged to fundraise  or donate to contribute. Funds raised will provide care and  support services to the 80,000 residents of South Carolina  living with Alzheimer’s, while also supporting critically-needed  research.

About the Alzheimer’s Association:

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health  organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Our  mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the  advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and  support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia  through the promotion of brain health.
