Birmingham, Ala. (March 4, 2014) – Junior Lukas Crisp fired a tournament-low five-under-par 67 in the final round of the Samford Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings. The Patriots rallied for a seventh place finish in the team standings.
FMU will return to the links on March 10 and 11 when they travel to Aiken, S.C., for the 17th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational.
The Patriots shot a 286 in the final round, which was the low team-round of the tournament.FMU, which sat in 13th place after the first round, finished with a total score of 323-308-286=917 at the 7,001-yard, par 72 Hoover Country Club course.
Crisp shot a 222 overall (79-76-67) to claim the top-five finish. Sophomore Tobias Pettersen tied for 19th in the individual standings with a score of 81-73-74=228.
Senior Taylor Banks shot an even-par 72 in the final round to move up to a tie for 43rd position (81-83-72=236). Junior John Michael Schaffer finished among a group tied for the 47th position (87-77-723=237), while senior Fredrick Sporck rounded out the Patriots’ five in a tie for 72nd position (82-82-81=245).
South Alabama (891) rallied to take the overall team title by two strokes over UAB (893). Campbell University (906) came home third, Belmont University (912) finished fourth, and Jacksonville State (913) rounded out the top five.
UAB’s Paul Dunne took home the individual title with an even-par 216 (69-76-71).
Due to extremely cold weather conditions, the teams played 27 holes yesterday and played the final 27 holes today.
