| | Email this article Print this article | Snadens compete in Maryland Bill Snaden, 83, and Lillian Snaden, 79, participated in the 2009 USA Masters Track and Field Championships in the new Prince George's Sports and Learning Center in Landover, MD.
The March 20-22 date occurred just one week before Lillian's 80th birthday when she moves to the 80-84 age group. It was a both a good and bad meet for Lillian. She would have set two records in the 80 age group, but had to settle for two seconds and a third. In her first event the 12-pound weight throw she threw 6.52 meters to Gloria Krug's 6.80m for second place. In the shot put, her weakest event, she had 4.73m for third place. The final day was the 20 pound superweight throw in which she led Krug for five rounds, 5.07m to 5.06m. On the final throw Lillian improved to 5.08m and Krug to 5.21 to take first. Lillian again took second.
Bill opened with the 12 pound weight throw at 6.62m, good for third place. In the shot put he threw 6.07m for fourth place. He finished with 4.20m in the 25 pound super weight for third.
