Liberty Week Lecture to be offered at library
As a part of the 2nd Annual Liberty Week, June 28 through July 4, the South Carolina Historical Society will present a lecture by Douglas MacIntyre, entitled “Devoted to the Cause of Liberty” at the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation Library on Friday, June 30, at 1 p.m.
The stunning victory at the Battle of Sullivan’s Island changed the course of the American Revolution and vividly revealed the Americans’ devotion to the cause of liberty. Speaker Doug MacIntyre will use maps and documents from the collections of the South Carolina Historical Society to describe the battle and its context in the history of the Palmetto State and the United States.
Doug MacIntyre is a retired software executive and is a graduate of West Point. He received a master’s degree from Boston University. A native of Bennettsville, MacIntyre serves on the South Carolina History Society’s board of managers.
