Pickleball, lunch and learn

As the summer solstice approaches, a special event to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease will be held on June 20, “The Longest Day.” The Longest Day is a team event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. Held annually on the summer solstice, this event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers.

The Pee Dee Picklers, a pickleball club will host pickleball at the Barnes Street Activity Center and Timrod Park. A lunch and learn will be at 12:15 p.m. in the center’s conference room. Participants are invited to play pickleball in the morning, 9 a.m. until noon, at the center and again later in the afternoon, around 4:30 p.m. at Timrod Park, weather permitting. There is no admission and lunch is free.

Anyone desiring to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association may do so by going online at alz.org/donate. Speakers for the lunch and learn will include Johnny Belissary, board director of Alzheimer’s Association and owner of New Generations, Dr. Lisa Lanning, Rodney Berry with Congressman Tom Rice’s office, Rep. Jay Jordan, and caregiver Judy Lewis. Shay Clardy, director of nursing at Heritage, may speak as well. Debbie Ross, Debbie Spinazzola and Johnny Belissary will be on the Good Morning Pee Dee Radio program, live 95.3 FM at 7:05 a.m. that morning to talk about pickleball and Alzheimer’s Disease.
