Summer Studios at Florence County Museum

The Florence County Museum will offer its Summer Studios program in three sessions during the month of July.

Summer Studios is a unique program for children. Each week-long session begins on Monday, focusing on a specific theme. The week ends each Friday with an exhibit of student work along with a reception for family and friends. Space is limited to 15 students per studio session.

July 6-10: Terrific Textiles, for Ages 5 to10.

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $150.

Create with cloth using dyes, printmaking, weaving and more! Students will dive in to textile art by exploring cloth-making methods, indigo and natural plant dyes, and surface design. Each student will design their own t-shirt combining printmaking and dyeing, explore the science of creating dyes, and practice traditional ways to make textiles into works of art.

July 13-17: Super Sculptures, for ages 8 through 12. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $150.

Explore art in three dimensions. Students will use a variety of materials to explore additive and subtractive sculpture processes. Each student will create kinetic (or moving), cast, carved and relief sculptures that explore the use of positive and negative space.

July 20-24, Mixed Media Mashup! for ages 5 through 10. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $150.

Art is so much more than just paint on paper! Using a variety of art materials (some quite unusual), students will learn to combine media to create contemporary, vibrant works of art inspired by artworks found in the museum’s galleries.
