Winners announced in miniature art show competition

Women and girls swept the prizes of the Lynda English Studio Gallery’s 5th Annual Art Competition on Wednesday night. The competition, according to co-owner Jackie Wukela, is designed for artists to tighten their skills as well as gain experience in entering judging arenas. It is open to those six years old and older who live in South Carolina. The competition ranged from first-time competitors to longtime competing artists.

Anna Langley earned first place and people’s choice award with “House Sparrow” in the youth division, for ages 6 to 12. Second place went to Emily Travaglio for “Apple,” and third place went to Za’kiya Johnson for “Heartbreak Man/Lonely Man.”

In the adult division, Traci Pacer won first place with her “In the Vein of Trees II.” Margaret Peterson won second place with “Thoughtful.” Jennifer Edwards won third place with “H & C Coffee.” People’s Choice award was earned by Pamela Rhodes with “Edisto Wetlands.”

The entries were judged by Sandra Cook, executive director of the Florence Regional Arts Alliance.

Adult first place was awarded $200; second place, $125, and third place, $75. Youth first place was awarded $25, second place, $15, and third place, $10.

The show will be open for viewing for a couple more weeks at the studio gallery, and some of the entries are for sale. Lynda English Studio Gallery is located at 403 Second Loop Road in Florence. For more information on the studio and competition, call the gallery at 843-673-9144.
