FMU Sports Roundup Lady Patriots pick up key road victory in finale
Sophomore 5-10 center Zaria Woods scored a career-high 27 points, hauled down a career-high equaling 18 rebounds, and helped Francis Marion hold off a late Flagler College rally to claim a 79-73 road win Saturday in Peach Belt Conference women’s play.
Francis Marion concludes its regular season 14-12 overall and tied for fifth in the PBC standings with a 10-10 mark. The Patriots will be the sixth seed in this week’s PBC Tournament and will travel to Clayton State University for a quarterfinal contest on Wednesday.
Woods was near perfect from the floor, nailing 12-of-16 shots and all three of her free throws. She also handed out three assists. Junior forward Kiana Adderton scored 16 points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed five rebounds, while junior guard Macy Passmore added a career-high 12 points and freshman Scarlett Gilmore 11.
Flagler College 82 Francis Marion 73
Center Winston Hill scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Francis Marion lost its season finale 82-73 at Flagler College Saturday.
Hill connected on 12-of-23 field goal attempts, including 6-of-13 from behind the three-point arc, while posting his 12th double-double of the season.
Senior point guard Jaquez Smith, playing in his 114th and final game, tallied four points and handed out two assists to push his career total to 363, third-best in program history.

Francis Marion 6 Limestone 2 Freshman catcher Sarah Harkins drove in two runs, including a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning to give Francis Marion a 2-1 win and a sweep of Sunday’s softball doubleheader at Limestone College. The Patriots won the opener 6-2 after scoring five runs in the top of the seventh to erase a one-run deficit.
Francis Marion improves to 20-3 and will host Wingate for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Junior right-handed pitcher Katelyn Ellard (12-3) threw a complete game in the first contest, scattering three hits and striking out seven with no walks.

Freshman outfielder Jon-Mitchell Carter pounded out three hits and sophomore infielder Tanner Wakefield added two hits and three runs batted in, but Francis Marion dropped the series finale to Young Harris College 24-13 Sunday in Peach Belt Conference baseball action.
FMU, which won the first two games of the series, falls to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Francis Marion will host Newberry College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
Carter finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Francis Marion’s women’s tennis team won all but one singles match en route to a 6-1 non-conference victory over Bluefield State Saturday in Salisbury, N.C.
FMU, ranked ninth regionally, is now 5-2 and winners of four straight. The Patriots will play host to a pair of matches this coming weekend at the Dr. Eddie Floyd/Florence Tennis Center: Chowan on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday at 3 p.m.
