Florence Elks Lodge makes donation to Darlington Humane Society
Florence Elks Lodge #1020 is known for their hard work and dedication to Florence and the surrounding areas. They often volunteer their time and money to better our area. The Elks Lodge also regularly works throughout their foundation on grants that they can then use to give back to the community.
Recently the Elks Lodge received approval for the Gratitude Grant. This grant allowed the Elks Lodge to make a donation of $1,250 to Darlington Humane Society at 1701 Animal Control Boulevard in Darlington. Monetary donations were not the only donations made by the Elks Club they also made donations of dog food, cat food, cleaning supplies, and bedding.
Steven Schulman, President of the Elks Lodge #1020, said that there are several members who actively volunteer with the Humane Society and they are the ones who suggested the Elks make a donation to them. Schulman’s neighbor, Lee Davis is an active volunteer at the Humane Society and she greatly encouraged the Elks Lodge and made them aware of some of the needs that the shelter had.
Jade Jackson, an employee of the Darlington Humane Society, says that they are all very grateful for the donation made by the Elks Lodge. She said that it will greatly benefit the animals continued care as they work to find them a fur-ever home.
The shelter says that they have roughly 200 cats and 100 dogs that are all in need a homes. They are currently working on making some renovations to the facility in order to better house some of the animals. The shelter says that their greatest needs, besides financial donations, are donations of cat and dog food. They request Purina cat and dog food as it is what the animals at the shelter are accustomed to. Any financial donations are accepted as well. There is an option to donate on their website: darlingtonhumane.org. All funds go to help with medication, transportation of animals, and rescuing more animals.
If you are interested in adopting a pet from Darlington Humane Society, an adoption application can be found on their website.
Steven Schulman of the Elks Lodge says he was excited to be able to help the Darlington Humane Society. Schulman states that the Elks Lodge is always looking for new ways to invest in the community.
