Greek Pastry, Food Sale to be held Nov. 12-14

It’s time for annual Greek Pastry and Food Sale! The ladies of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church will serve up tasty Greek meals and mouthwatering desserts on Nov. 12, 13 and 14 at 2990 S. Cashua Drive. This year’s event will be held in the new Hellenic Center which opened for the Spring Festival.

Meals and pastries will be available for eat in or take out. There will also be a drive-thru for pick up. Meals offered will include chicken rigonato (1/2 baked chicken) moussaka, souvlaki, and dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) served with rice pilaf, spanakopita, Greek salad and bread. Greek grilled chicken salad and Greek salad will be offered as well.

Greek pastries will include baklava, kouramea, fenekia, koulourakia, kataifi and chocolate eclairs, galatobouriko, pear cookies, melomekarona and sweet bread. New this year, will be Napoleons. Many of these pastries freeze well and will make the perfect addition to your holiday table.

The women of the church began offering their scrumptious pastries about 65 years ago at area markets and businesses to assist in the building of a church for their fledgling immigrant community. “It has taken many years of the hardworking Greek community to achieve our goals, but without the wonderful support of our Florence and surroundings towns, it would never had happened, and for this, we are very thankful,” commented George Kampiziones, Parish Council Board Member.

Hours for the sale are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Unlike the spring festival, there will be no outside activities. For more information about the Greek Pastry and Food Sale, call the church office at 843-662-5471. Also, look for a $1 off coupon in next week’s News Journal.
