Child development expert Heckmann at Poynor Center

Early childhood happens only once. It is precious. Whatever happens in the first years cannot be repeated or reclaimed later on. The Five Golden Keys help us to honor and respect the being of the small child, allowing unhurried time for development and allowing time to enjoy the gradual and miraculous unfolding of the human being.

Slow Parenting, an evening with Helle Heckmann, will be held in the Poynor Adult Education Center auditorium, 301 South Dargan Street, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Parents of children under six years of age, grandparents, child care providers, teachers and community advocates are encouraged to attend. A light meal will be served.

This session will provide an opportunity for those who serve children to understand the key ideas of quality early childhood education and parenting.

Additional public opportunities to meet Heckmann include coffee with parents of young children at the Child Development Center at Woods Road, 1400 Woods Road, on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 8 to 9 a.m. and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Coffee for parents will also be held at the R.N. Beck Child Development Center, 1001 W. Sumter Street, on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 8 to 9 a.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Helle Heckmann is an internationally recognized expert on child development and early childhood education. She has visited over 50 countries while working as a family consultant, early educator and author of multiple books on child development.
