DRIVE-IN MOVIES: A photo taken in the 1970s of the marquee outside the Palmetto Drive-In on West Lucas Street. The Palmetto, which had a car capacity of three hundred, opened on Sept. 18, 1952. The first movie shown on the big screen was “Al Jennings of Oklahoma,” starring Dan Duryea and Gale Storm. The drive-in closed in 1982 and was soon demolished. A car dealership is now located on the site.
