House of Hope blessed with new van
PASSING THE KEYS – Evan Cantrell of Five Star Automotive hands over the keys to a brand new van to Bryan Braddock, executive director of the House of Hope of the Pee Dee.

The ladies and children from the House of Hope are riding in high style these days. A brand new shuttle van, wrapped with the ministry’s logo, was given to the House of Hope during a special reveal pm Wednesday. Evan Cantrell of Five Star Automotive presented the keys to House of Hope executive director Bryan Braddock on Oct. 28 at BMW Of Florence, David McLeod Boulevard. House of Hope of the Pee Dee is a non-profit Christian ministry serving the homeless by providing a helping hand to those in need.

Their primary goal is to provide relief to people in crisis. They structure programs which focus and focus on spiritual growth, education, employment, life management and recovery from substance abuse. “This gift came out of a tragedy, but God can turn tragedies into blessings,” Braddock said when handed the keys to the van. Explaining he said, “Due to a shortage of vehicles, the House of Hope was unable to transport the 30 women and children at our women’s home at one time.

We only had two six-passenger vans so we would occasionally borrow a 15-passenger van from the Pee Dee Community Church when we needed to transport a large group to an event. “We were using their van one night taking the ladies to a pancake supper at a local church and on the way the van was involved in an accident. The borrowed van was totaled. After contacting a few churches and businesses, we were able to find and purchase a used van.

But, we felt we should give this van to Pee Dee Community Church to replace the one we had borrowed. Shortly after making that decision, I received a call from Evan Cantrell with Five Star Automotive regarding our search for a van. I explained that we found a van but we intended to give it to the Pee Dee Community Church and continue looking for another van.

A few hours later she called back with the incredible news that Five Star Automotive was going to donate a brand new van to the House of Hope. “I cannot explain how much of an answered prayer this was for me and my staff. God turned a potential tragedy into a blessing for both the House of Hope and Pee Dee Community Church and used the generous owners of Five Star Automotive as a ‘vehicle’ for this blessing,” he said. “For us, this van is a symbol of God’s work and God using people like you,” he said to Evan and the staff at Five Star Automotive.
