Limestone Athletics adds Sports Nutritionist

on Tuesday, 21 May 2019. Posted in Good life, News, Education

GAFFNEY—The Limestone College Athletics Department and Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance Curt Lamb have announced that a Sports Nutritionist/Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will be added to the staff thanks to a Coaching Enhancement Grant awarded by the NCAA.

Limestone will receive three years of grant funding from the NCAA to support the salary, wages and benefits of the hired coach, and will also provide funding at the beginning of each of the first three years to support professional development. This grant requires a five-year commitment by the recipients.

The NCAA Coaching Enhancement Grant is designed to provide financial assistance to member schools that are committed to enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in newly created assistant coaching positions for any NCAA-sponsored sport.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Limestone,” said Lamb. “To add a position that has been requested by our student-athletes will make an immediate impact in their athletic and collegiate experience.”

The position will work cooperatively with the coaching and athletic training staff to develop team and individual nutrition plans as well as strength programs in a positive and motivating environment.

The successful candidate will help provide insight regarding health and nutrition as it relates to physical development and health; counsel student-athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, and recovery; weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation.

In addition to serving as the department’s nutritionist, the position will also develop and monitor strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams.

Limestone is currently conducting a national search to fill this position by August 1.
