17th Annual MLK Celebration March and Rally in Florence on Monday
The Florence Community Development Agency and Carolina Regional Black Chamber of Commerce will host the 17th Annual King Celebration on Monday, Jan. 18. The theme of this year’s program is "Keep the Dream Alive" and will feature a march from Monumental Baptist Church to Francis Marion Performing Arts Center as well as a rally. The event is free and open to the public.
Ron Busby, the President and CEO of the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., will speak about the continued fight to create a more equal and just country and the importance Black business ownership plays in fighting economic inequality.
"A key pillar of the civil rights movement was economic equality. Martin Luther King Jr. said it best 'that the inseparable twin of racial injustice was economic injustice.' As we celebrate the 17th annual MLK march we are reminded of the past and present racial and economic injustices," said USBC President Ron Busby. Busby will also address what’s at stake in the upcoming election and why he believes Hillary Clinton will fight to address issues like racial inequality, economic inequality, voting rights, and gun violence.
Mr. Andrew A. Huggins Sr. will also be recognized for outstanding community service.
For members of the public, warm-up begins at 9:30 AM with refreshments.
