All-City Choral Concert Monday at FMU
High school seniors to be conducted by Coker’s Jorgonson
Florence 1 Schools will present the Senior All-City Choral Concert on Monday at 7 p.m. in Chapman Auditorium on the campus of Francis Marion University.
The Senior All-City Chorus is the school district’s largest concert choir made up of student voices from South Florence, West Florence, and Wilson High schools.
Guest conductor and clinician for the All-City Choral Concert this year is Dr. Jerron Jorgenson, Director of Choral Activities and Music Education Coordinator at Coker University.
The All-City ensemble will sing a varied selection of music. Each individual high school choral group will also present a musical selection under the direction of Dr. Erick Figueras, South Florence; Nikki Raines, West Florence; and Megerlyn Davis, Wilson.
“The Senior All-City Chorus event is a staple in the fabric of our music community. This event, along with others, are a testament to why our Florence community continues to be named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants,” said Florence One Schools Director of Arts and Innovative Programs Jeffery Gaines.
According to Gaines, the purpose of the concert is to provide students the opportunity to learn new music; experience a new perspective regarding musical styles by working with a guest conductor; receive awards for their individual dedication to the choral music program; and learn how to collaborate with their peers in a non-competitive atmosphere with students from other schools.
The All-City Choral concert is free and open to the public. It is expected to last for approximately 45 minutes.
