Dedicated Community Bank opens branch bank in Florence

Dedicated Community Bank has opened a full-service bank branch at the Florence Mall. It is located at 2016 Hoffmeyer Road near the intersection of Hoffmeyer and Evans Street. DCB offers all of the regular banking services, as well as small business and personal loans, including auto and home-equity loans.

It also provides in-house mortgage loans in which all decisions are made locally. “Our niche is that person or people who are looking for a relationship where they can sit across the desk from their banker. People who appreciate banking the way it used to be done, knowing local management is making the decisions,” said Jim M. Ivey Jr., executive vice president. DCB’s main bank is located in Darlington.

This hometown bank was founded in 1986 as Darlington County Bank and quickly became known as DCB. With an eye toward expansion the name was changed in the mid 2000s to Dedicated Community Bank, keeping the same popular acronym. Jim said the bank purchased a lot in Florence with plans to build a branch in 2008, but those plans were put on hold after the financial crisis.

Jim Ivey, an experienced banker (previously with Wachovia and First Federal) joined DCB in early 2013. In June of 2014, he opened a loan office in Florence. When the opportunity came to lease the current building (which previously housed a bank branch) the bank did so, opening three weeks ago. Ivey said the bank is well capitalized.

It is set apart from the larger banks by being small, but not financially, he stressed. “We have here a small, locally owned, locally managed bank where all decisions are made in Darlington. This gives us a base of operations in Florence,” he noted.

“As far as I know, we are the first new bank in Florence since the financial crisis in 2008,” he added. DCB operates with normal banking hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Fridays. The drive-thru opens at 8:30 a.m. For more information, you may call the DCB branch at 843-292-0016.
