Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events Being Held at Limestone College Extended Campus Locations

on Monday, 26 October 2015. Posted in Local News

In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Limestone College will hold events at Extended Campus locations throughout South Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
According to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, one in four women will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in her lifetime, and, on average, three women are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner.
Throughout October, communities across the country will mourn for those whose lives were taken by domestic violence, celebrate the tremendous progress victim advocates have made over the years, and connect with one another with a true sense of unity to end domestic violence.
Limestone College is hosting these events to raise public awareness about domestic violence and to provide support for those who have lost someone to domestic violence. The events will also be used to educate communities and individuals on how to recognize when someone is in trouble as well as provide information they need to be safe.
In Florence, the event will be held at Limestone’s Extended Campus location at 2724 W Palmetto Street and starts at 6 p.m. Representatives from the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Assault, including a former Limestone graduate, will present information regarding domestic violence and sexual assault in a round-table discussion. Coalition Advocates will also be available to answer questions and provide resources for assistance.
In addition, a domestic violence survivor from Sisters 4 the Future will be on hand to discuss her organization and motivation behind its inception. Weather permitting, the program will end with a candlelight vigil to honor survivors. For more information about this event, call 843-662-3517.
Limestone will be hosting similar events at its Extended Campus locations in Aiken, Charleston, Columbia, Gaffney, Greenville, and Lowcountry (Yemassee).
