Florence native Andra Watkins to address Sidney Lanier Literary Club
AUTHOR ANDRA WATKINS To speak here

New York Times best-selling author Andra Watkins will speak to the Sidney Lanier Literary Club on Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Central United Methodist Church hosts this monthly event. The public is invited. Andra is a Florence native and author of “Not Without My Father: One Woman’s 444-Mile Walk of the Natchez Trace,” a memoir about her dysfunctional family adventure.

The book was nominated for the 2015 National Book Award for Nonfiction, the Sarton Memoir Award, and the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award for Autobiographies and Memoirs. Her other works include her debut novel “To Live Forever: An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis” and her photography collection, “Natchez Trace: Tracks in Time.” Andra travels the country challenging readers everywhere to Make a Memory. Her heralded Make a Memory presentation makes attendees laugh, cry, and think.

You won’t want to miss her high-energy appearance. In 2014, Andra became one of the only living persons to walk the 444-mile Natchez Trace as the pioneers did – Natchez, Miss. to Nashville, Tenn. Fifteen miles a day. Six days a week. She finished her trek in 34 days.

While she walked the Trace to launch her novel, she ended up having a life-changing adventure with her 80-year-old father, Florence resident Roy Watkins. Andra lives in Charleston with her husband, Michael T Maher. A non-practicing CPA, she has a degree in accounting from Francis Marion University. For more information about Andra, you can visit her website at andrawatkins.com.
