The Francis Marion University women’s and men’s tennis teams are ranked 18th and 28th respectively in the final 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II Top 50 national polls that were released recently. In the final individual ITA rankings, junior Richard Ashforth is ranked 25th nationally for singles and Ashforth and freshman Philipp Sluga occupy the eighth spot among Division II doubles pairs.

The Patriots placed fifth during the Peach Belt Conference regular season, finished fifth at PBC Tournament, and made the program’s eighth appearance in an NCAA Division II national tournament regional final over the past 10 years. Six of the team’s losses were to Top-20 opponents and the other was to a Division I opponent.
The Patriots also picked up seven victories over nationally ranked foes.
