Library plans open house

on Tuesday, 25 October 2016. Posted in Good life, News, Local News

The Florence County Library System has received a grant to purchase assistive technology so that all six libraries throughout Florence County now have a computer station designed for people with visual or motor impairments. The grant was used to pay for hardware and software, including large print keyboards and screen magnifying software, for people with vision impairments, and trackball (mouse) controllers for people who have difficulty using a standard mouse. The purchased software also provides an audio reading of screen content to assist patrons with severely limited vision who cannot read printed text. LED lighted handheld magnifiers are also available at all locations.

To introduce this assistive technology to the public, the library will host an open house on Thursday, Oct. 27. from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Joe Stukes Meeting Room at the library in Florence. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
