Marion Co. GOP raises more than $1,000 to assist Dept. of Social Services efforts
The Marion County Department of Social Services recently received a donation of more than $1,000 from members and friends of the Marion County Republican Party to assist in purchasing Christmas gifts for less fortunate children.
Deborah Martin and Donna Stackhouse from DSS received donations from Jeanne Bassett Lumpkin, Chairman, Marion County Republican Party, and were joined by GOP Member Lyle Werner and GOP Member/Precinct President Ron Elliott.
Lumpkin said it was a community effort with local businesses adding to individual cash donations with gift certificates and deep discounts, all in excess of $1,300. Business participants included Walmart, Goody’s, Burlington Coat Factory, Stewart Sunoco, Rabon Produce, Vets 4 U Landscaping LLC, Margaret’s Restaurant & Lounge, and Lowe’s Home Improvement.
She said the group also wished to give a very special thank you to Marion County Sheriff deputies for assisting in loading the toys and clothes.
“The expeditious actions by the Marion County Republican Party to support Marion DSS in ensuring all the children we identified as needing gifts is greatly appreciated,” said Stackhouse. “Without the last minute support and effort, we would not have been able to assist some of the older children we work with. Sometimes others forget we are charged with ensuring the safety and wellbeing needs of all children up to age18. The joy of knowing that the children will have gifts on Christmas morning makes the long stressful days and nights worth everything. Our career is not just a job, it is a calling and holds a special place in our hearts. Thank you Marion County Republican Party!”
