This holiday season, nurses from McLeod Regional Medical Center collected donations within their nursing units for the Lighthouse Ministries. Their donations of non-perishable food and baby supplies were used to restock the emergency food pantry to help those individuals in our area that are in need.

Lighthouse Ministries started as an outreach program for churches. It is a central location for people to go who are facing eviction, need assistance to prevent the disconnection of utilities, need life sustaining medicine and food. “When people are facing eviction and don’t have money to pay their light bill, one of the first places they cut back on is the purchase of food,” said JoAnn King, director of Administration and Marketing, Lighthouse Ministries.

“The donation of the food and supplies from the McLeod nurses is very helpful to those families in need and is so appreciated.” The McLeod nurses who spearheaded this project were from the McLeod Nursing Care Leadership Forum. This forum is comprised of staff nurses representing each McLeod Nursing Unit. They meet monthly with the McLeod Chief Nursing Officer to collaborate and advocate for nursing practice at McLeod.
