School of Dance Arts teams get awards at national contest
ROCK HILL – Two School of Dance Arts teams competed at Dance Machine: A National Dance Convention on Saturday, April 23. SODA’s hip hop competition team, Twisted Force, a junior team of 13 dancers, ages 8-11, captured the judges attention and high marks with their sharp synchronized style. The team is coached and choreographed by Amos Lee, under the direction of Niki Sansbury. Under pink fedoras, the dancers popped and locked their way into a Platinum Award for a high score in their division.
That high score also got them third place out of all the dances in their age group. The judges were so impressed, they gave a special Bravo Award to Ms. Lee. The senior Twisted Force team consists of eight dancers, ages 11-14. Dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz, these young ladies demonstrated exceptional style, confidence, and technique and received an Elite Platinum Award for an almost perfect score.
Even more exciting for them was winning first place in their division and then first place overall. This tremendous honor and accomplishment landed the senior team with a giant trophy taller than most of the juniors, and an invitation to come back this summer to compete at the national level. Interested in being a part of a talented team of dancers? Tryouts for tap, jazz, and hip hop will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 10-12 at the School of Dance Arts.
