Sorenson is named Evening Lion of the Year
Deborah Sorenson is Club Lion of the Year for the Florence Evenings Lions Club. The honor is in recognition of her ongoing commitment to provide needed humanitarian service to citizens of the local community. A Lion for 15 years, Sorenson has participated in various club projects including vision screenings, collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids, kits for the homeless, knapsacks for children requiring counseling and meals.
She serves as the Vision Screening Chairperson and is personally responsible for 2,500 plus screenings in 2015-2016. The screenings detect nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, whether focal strength is equal in each eye, gaze deviation or “lazy eye,” pupil sizes and whether pupils are lined evenly. She also serves as the Leo Club Advisor for South and West Florence High Schools.
In this capacity, Deborah guides Leos in managing club activities and developing effective community service projects. Leos are a service project of Lions clubs. “It is very fulfilling and rewarding to provide needed service for the citizens of my community. I am accepting this honor on their behalf,” said Sorenson. The Florence Evening Lions Club meets on first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at Lizard’s Thicket.
