Spirit of Central set for June 29
Central United Methodist Church invites the public to attend it 13th Annual “Spirit of Central” on Wednesday, June 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Davis Center. The program is free. Dinner will be served from 5:30-6:15 p.m. and is $5 per adult and $2 per child. The menu includes hamburger steak (hamburger sliders for kids), gravy, whipped potatoes, rolls, broccoli salad, watermelon, apple pie and ice cream.
After dinner, a patriotic tribute to the nation follows. Featured vocalist for the evening will be Centralite Rebecca Thompson. After the service songs tribute, Brian Gandy, director of the Darlington County Historical Commission, will present a PowerPoint program on James Elliott Williams of Darlington, the most decorated enlisted man in US Naval History. Williams was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and has a US Navy destroyer named after him.
The Fabulous Plaids will conclude the evening with a program of doo-wop and beach music. This will be the Plaids 11th appearance for the “Spirit of Central.” Children's activities include a flag parade and a visit from the ice cream truck on the playground. Join in this evening of fun and fellowship for all ages. Central United Methodist Church is located on the Corner of South Irby Street and West Cheves Street in downtown Florence.
