The State President Mary Armstrong attended the brunch meeting of the Peedee Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century at Florence Country Club on Jan. 16, hosted by Florence Ervin and Martha McGee of Florence. One of the missions of the Colonial Dames XVIIC is to aid in the preservation of records and of historical sites of the country. State President Armstrong outlined future plans of the Society as records become digital.

She noted that the Peedee Chapter has four of the seven members in the state who have been members for 50 years or more. Florence Ervin was honored for her status in that group in the Peedee Chapter which includes Caroline James, Nell Vincent and Barry Webster. A memorial service led by Chaplain Renee’ Baxley was held for Betty Hammer Lewis and Claire Godwin who had been important members of the chapter.

The state conference will be held in Columbia, on Feb. 19 and 20. Martha McGee, Barbara Copeland, Jayne Lee and Renee’ Baxley plan to attend. Mary Jane Lee, daughter of Jayne Lee will serve as a page. The Peedee Chapter is open to receiving new members who are interested in joining and have documentary proof of an ancestor’s service and residence in the colonies prior to 1701. Applications may be made through any member.
