The Exchange offers a safe place for buyers, sellers

By BRENDA HARRISON Editor of The News Journal Florence, S.C.

Have you thought about selling or buying items online but don’t want the hassle or fear of meeting strangers at random places? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a safe place to meet?

Well, now there is such a place in Florence. The Exchange, which opened on Sept. 19, offers a safe meeting place for those selling or buying online through Craigslist, Facebook or classified ads.

Located inside the Mission Mart, it is a comfortable and safe place to complete online transactions. No more awkward and potentially unsafe meetings in random parking lots. The Exchange offers a home-like sitting area where participants can enjoy a magazine while they wait.

Buyers and sellers can arrange the meeting during store hours and take care of their sales in The Exchange meeting area. Best of all, this service is free, commented Exchange Manager Joy Gowan.

The Mission Mart is located a 953 S. Irby Street in the former Big Lots store.

Exchange hours are anytime the Mission Mart is open, which is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon.-Fri.; and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Gowan said plans are underway to install locking storage cabinets for sellers whose schedule prevents them from meeting up with their buyer.

“Once that storage is in place, The Exchange staff can take care of your sale for you,” she said. “For a small fee they will check-in your item, lock it in secure storage, and take care of the sale when your buyer arrives. You will be notified when the item has been sold and your payment is ready for pickup,” she said.

“We also hope to become a free Wi-Fi spot as well,” Gowan added.

“This is a great place to sell that china set, tool box, antique quilt, bike, musical instrument, etc!, Gowan said. “Unfortunately, we will not be able to permit the sale of the following items within The Exchange:

Animals, food (food sales require licensing and inspections), weapons (handguns, rifles, assault rifles, shotguns etc) and ammunition, stun guns and tasers, porn and adult magazines, and anything sexually explicit, alcohol, tobacco, e-cigs, vapes and supplies, anything requiring a prescription, anything illegal or anything not listed that you have to be over 18 to purchase and counterfeit items.

Also, the buying, selling and or trading of tickets is not allowed.

All sales and purchases are the responsibility of the buyer/seller. The Exchange Staff are not responsible for the condition of items sold in the meeting area.
