There’s still time to sign up for FLT workshops
Give your child the gift of a great theatre experience through the Florence Little Theatre workshops. Classes include: Fall Children's Workshop for grades 2 through 6. Kids have fun learning new stage technique, songs and choreography geared to their specific age group. This workshop culminates as your child is cast and performs in a production of “Disney’s Beauty and The Beast Jr.” Dec. 9-11. Cost $200.
Scholarships are available in limited quantities. Classes meet one day a week – choose Mondays or Thursdays: 2nd and 3rd grade meet 4-4:45 p.m.; 4th, 5th, 6th grade meet 4:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Rising Stars for grades 7 through 12. Rising Stars is a theatre arts program designed for young adults--grades 7-12 who love to learn and want to build their theatre skills in a safe and professional environment.
The first two to three weeks of the program, the students develop skills vital to performing arts like team-building, public speaking, and creative problem solving. In the fourth week, students audition for the production chosen by the director of the program. In the fall, a musical theater show is chosen as the semester project. That gives the students the opportunity to learn music in addition to traditional theatre. In the fifth week the students begin rehearsing the roles they were cast in during auditions.
All students in the program are given a role in the show. From the fifth week until the end of the program, the students meet weekly to rehearse their roles for the production and continue developing skills learned in the first few sessions. The program concludes with public performances that allow the students to experience all aspects of a theatre production. Productions are done on the FLT stage with the support of staff and volunteers.
Students are able to perform on a professional quality stage with professional level production quality of lights, sounds, costumes and makeup. Classes meet weekly on Tuesdays from 5-6:30 p.m., directed by Lisa Sims. Each session costs $200. The Fall 2016 session will conclude with performances of “Guys And Dolls, Jr.” on Dec. 17-18. Registration for either program is available online at florencelittletheatre.org or by calling the box office at (843) 662-3731 and pressing 1 from 12-5, Monday through Friday.
