Two Track Club members are All-Americans
CAMERON ALDRIDGE AND ALEX SMALL All-American at USATF JR. Olympic nationals

SACRAMENTO, CA – The week of July 25 saw the athletes of the Florence Track Club take on the greatest competition in the nation – the USATF Jr. Olympic National Championships. Nine Florence Track Club athletes competed in this final competition, with two of them becoming ‘All Americans’ – placing in the top eight in the nation.

Alex Small (9-10 male), competing in the 1500m race walk achieving a time of 16:20.47 and Cameron Aldridge (9-10 male), competing in the javelin with a throw of 31.53m both received medals for placing eighth in the nation. Other competitors included Sanne Verkoeijen (9-10 female) in the 1500m race walk with a time of 11:59.47 (16th); Cassie Hitch (11-12 female) with a 1500m race walk time of 9:51.52 (13th); Caelin Sloan (11-12 female), who competed in two events, with a 1500m race walk time of 10:41.08

(22nd) and a javelin throw of 15.52m (42nd); Kaleb Burroughs (9-10 male) with a javelin throw of 30.80m (9th); Kaylanna Burroughs (11-12 female), who competed in three events, with a 800m time of 3:02.81 (18th), long jump of 3.35m (11th), and 1500m run with a time of 6:03.29 (10th); Kamille Cunningham (11-12 female) competing in high jump with a jump of 1.30m (24th); and Hidde Verkoeijen in the 1500m run with a time of 6:41.82. All of the athletes of the Florence Track Club competed well against the toughest competition in the nation. Recognition by the City for those who were State Champions, Regional Champions, and All Americans took place on August 8 in the City Council Chambers.

Athletes and coaches were recognized by the City Council for their great 2016 season. The cross country season is just around the corner with signups underway with the City of Florence Parks and Recreation division. (See below)
