Florence One School District names Athletes of the Year

Florence 1 Schools recently held its Male and Female Athlete of the Year ceremonies with student nominees representing each of the district’s three high schools.

Each high school nominated one male and one female athlete, and a committee of local sports editors and directors selected the district winners which were announced at the Poynor Building.

Nominees included Alexis Kirby (softball) and Cameron Harper (football) of South Florence; Lauren Gordon (volleyball/track) and Wyatt Emerson (football/tennis of West Florence); and Loyal McQueen (cross country/girls’ basketball) and Yavin Smith (football/track and field) of Wilson.

Wilson’s Loyal McQueen and Yavin Smith received the Florence 1 Schools 2020 Female and Male Athlete of the Year Awards, respectively.
