Sharks rally to defeat RedWolve
Wilmington scroed three times in the bottom of the ninth inning off Florence reliever Derek Beckley as the Sharks rallied from a 5-3 deficit to defeat the RedWolves 6-5 on Sunday. It was the fourth consecutive loss for Florence, which fell to 2-4 on the season. Wilmington won its second consecutive game to improve to 2-4. The RedWolves were at home Tuesday against the Lexington County Blowfish. Florence plays on the road tonight against the Copperheads in Asheboro. The team’s next home game is Friday against Wilmington at Sparrow Stadium. On Sunday, Florence took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a one-out double by Kyle Riesselmann that scored Lukas Polonco and Will Hardee. Wilmington cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Reheem Salmon. Florence moved ahead 5-1 in the top of the eighth. The big blow was a two-out, three-run home run by Polanco. The RedWolves took advantage of two hit pitches and a throwing error by Wilmington catcher Greyson Erwing. In the bottom half of the inning, Wilmington cut the lead to 5-3 as John Behrends tagged Beckley for a two-run homer. With one out in the bottom of the ninth and Beckley still on the mound, Chase Nixon drove in Zack Budzik with an RBI single. Donald Hansis followed with another single on which a hustling Lynch rounded the bases to score the game-tying run. Kole Tauzin came on in relief of Beckley and struck out the first batter he faced for the second out of the inning. An intentional walk loaded the bases before Kevin Gsell’s single produced a walk-off win for the home-standing Sharks. Polanco had a huge night with the bat for Florence, going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Hardee had two hits and Riesselmann scored two runs for the Redwolves.
