TCS golfer Zeigler signs with USC

Trinity Collegiate School senior Gene Zeigler recently signed a national letter of intent to play golf for the University of South Carolina.

“I have always wanted to go to USC and it is a great choice because it gives me the opportunity of a two way path- if you want to play professionally, or choose to go into business,” said Ziegler.

Ziegler made an unofficial visit to the USC campus during his ninth grade year and verbally committed to the school shortly after his visit.

Zeigler began playing golf at age six. In the years that followed he earned recognition both locally and nationally.

He has been invited to numerous invitationals, including the RNA British Junior Invitational last year.

“Gene is an all-around great player,” said Paul Woodberry, Zeigler’s coach outside of school. “He has length and feel and has a bright future at USC and beyond.”

Zeigler is equally as strong in the classroom, being a member of the National Honor Society ranking in the top five percent of students at TCS.

“Coaching Gene has been very exciting because of how good he really is,” said Trinity Golf Coach Michael Hawk. “But on top of that, he is a great kid and he has a supportive family. Getting to know him and his family off the course has been equally as exciting. In terms of his golf, I personally believe we will watch him play on TV in the very near future because he is that talented.”
